Postgraduate English Teaching
In accordance with the program curriculum, English courses for postgraduate students include compulsory courses for students at the elementary stage, and elective ones at the advanced stage. After the mandatory English Placement Test, first-year postgraduate students, if they pass the examination, either have credits (3 credits) and take directly the elective course (40 class hours in 10 weeks), or are required to take the compulsory course (100 class hours in 17 weeks, 3 credits), if they do not pass the placement the examination.
Compulsory Courses
Compulsory courses are composed of two blocks: academic competence courses and academic communication courses. The textbook for the academic competence course is Advanced English for Graduate Students: General Skills and Academic Literacy, published by Higher Education Press(Pan Haiying Ma Yi, 2015). The course emphasizes on enhancing basic language skills and academic competence, while the academic communication courses aims to enhance students’ communication ability.
