With the support of administrators and related departments of Jilin University, from July 30th to August 20th, 2016, 14 selected teachers from School of Foreign Language Education (SOFLE) attended the summer training program for college English teachers held in Queen's University Belfast (QUB).
With a solid foundation for cooperation, QUB and SOFLE have always been committing to carry out more practical and effective collaboration at a higher level and in a broader field. In this context, QUB placed great importance on this training, and therefore assigned Professor Adrienne Scullion, Vice President and , Professor Michael Alcorn, Dean of Graduate School, to attend both the opening and closing ceremonies. QUB also made an endeavor to arrange relevant courses delivered by selected senior experts. The courses mainly covered translation theories, EFL teacher training, and English teaching pedagogy.
Teachers of SOFLE were actively involved in the courses. By combining what they had learned in the program together with their own teaching experiences and research, they had a better understanding of the new development and theories in this field. Experts were deeply impressed by their enthusiasm and professionalism. During the program, teachers of SOFLE also visited well-known universities and colleges, and places of historic interests and scenic places of tourist attraction.
This training program has broadened visions, updated ideas, and promoted teaching and research capacity of SOFLE teachers involved. To benefit more teachers, SOFLE will host a symposium back home for them to share what they have learnt, with the hope to cultivate other teachers and talents for JLU
Under the guidance of developing JLU into a top research-oriented university, SOFLE has long been making endeavors to enhance the overall students’ foreign language competence, and actively push forward the internationalization of SOFLE and JLU. As an internationalized faculty is a prerequisite for the internationalization of a university, SOFLE has always been stressing on cultivating teachers with international visions, seeking oversea training opportunities. With consistent efforts in raising funds and formulated documents in relevant aspects, SOFLE provided a sound guarantee for the success in faculty training.
