In accordance with JLU overall planning of promoting the academic integrity and ethics of its faculty and staff, School of Foreign Language Education of JLU held a relevant theme conference in the International Academic Lecture Hall on the afternoon of November 2, 2023. At the meeting, Professor Wu Zhenwu, the guest speaker, gave a keynote lecture on the subject. Besides being a renowned expert on this special academic field, Professor Wu is also Deputy Director of the Degree Evaluation Committee of JLU, and a Kuang Yaming Professor of Institute of Ancient Books of the School of Archeology, JLU. Liu Zhuo, a staff member of the Achievements Management Section of Academy of Social Sciences, JLU, was also invited to this meeting. Professor Pan Haiying, Dean of School of Foreign Language Education chaired the meeting. A total of more than 150 people, including the deputy deans, other faculty and staff, and graduate students of the School attended the meeting.
Professor Wu's lecture mainly focuses on the following three topics: respecting scientific integrity and ethics, conforming to academic norms, and staying away from academic misconduct. By combining his years of experiences and insights gained from study and work, Professor Wu vividly interpreted his principle in academic work, which are "seeking truth from facts". With extensive references, Professor Wu fully illustrated his academic motto and life attitude. They are never being complacent or conservative, and always advancing with the times; believing in science, being optimistic, and being self-contented.
Dean Pan Haiying made a related summary after the lecture and added that it is a long-term and important task to promote academic integrity and ethics. She also hoped that all the teachers and students of the School should thoroughly study the relevant documents and continuously improve their academic integrity and moral standard. Deeply inspired by Professor Wu’s lecture, teachers and students present expressed that they will conform to academic integrity and ethics, promote scientific spirit, and adopt a pragmatic attitude in their future studies and work.
