On the afternoon of June 23rd, Prof. ZHANG Jun, Changbaishan Scholar and Associate Dean of Faculty of Education, the University of Auckland, gave a talk entitled “How to improve teaching effectiveness and academic skills” with the invitation from the JLU Faculty Development and the event was held in Economics and Information Teaching Building, Jilin University.
First, Prof. ZHANG Jun gave an introduction to influences of globalization upon education by taking examples of Auckland University and Jilin University, and pointed out that publications in international journals were the outcomes of globalization. Second, he gave some useful suggestions and writing tutorials on publishing in international journals. In his opinion, teachers should have a clear idea about the research subjects, the orientation and review process of international journals before submitting their papers. Due to the cultural differences, international publishing experience deficiency, neglect of English writing opportunities and improper use of literature review, many inland researchers find it difficulty to publish papers in international journals, for which Prof. ZHANG offered some useful solutions. Moreover, he elaborated on how to design and implement teaching and research, important issues and problem solutions of the whole process, and offered intensive guidance on paper writing. In the end, he listed all the potential journals for teachers to submit, shared his experiences, and answered questions.
The teachers present spoke highly of this lecture as they had gained a comprehensive and systematic understanding upon publishing their papers in the Englishlanguage. They also expressed their desire for more lectures alike to broaden their vision and enhance their professional capability.
